Meyers Rescue Ranch - Karla Rivas

MRR only takes a dog on a case-by-case basis due to our limited space. This time we had extenuating circumstances. So, this pack got to hang with me for a week. Jack, my sidekick, is a Staffordshire terrier. We picked him up from a kill shelter in East LA 5 years ago. He is great, and a permanent resident. Sunshine, the older black pit, and her brother, Rio, a Plott hound mix, make appearances at the ranch when their dad is out of town. They love to accompany us to events like the Hoopa Ability Fair this April. We go to raise awareness about low-cost spay and neuter assistance available to rural communities. Of course, we also invite attendees to smooch a pooch or snuggle a kitten. Jack and Rio were stars at their kissing booth last year. However, this year the kittens may steal the show. Sassy, the small Heinz 57, lost her owner suddenly. He was a very special man and a friend. Sassy crashed with us until her extended family could come to take her to live with them in Colorado. She took to the circumstances surprisingly well and seemed very grateful when we said goodbye.
